How to Transition Your Space for Fall

Most people think of spring as the time to clean their homes and get ready for the seasons ahead. But cleaning, organizing, and decluttering should be done twice a year to make sure your home or apartment is as clean as possible for fall and winter. Fall is also the perfect time to transition into a different color palette and décor.
This fall, follow these tips for adjusting your space for the coziest, cleanest end of the year.
  • Get Rid of Unwanted Items: Declutter your living space, clearing out things you don’t want or no longer need. You don’t have to throw everything away: donate useable items in good condition to a favorite nonprofit or your local thrift store so other people can enjoy them!
  • Start with a Clean Slate: Once you’ve cleared out your old stuff, give all your surfaces a deep clean. Dust, spray, and vacuum everything from carpets and upholstery to furniture and fixtures.
  • Store Spring & Summer Items and Décor: Pack up your warm weather décor and put it away for next year. Be sure to label your boxes or bins as you go. Tip: place scented dryer sheets or packets of lavender in linens to keep them smelling fresh.
  • Choose Your Colors: Transition to fall by deciding what colors you want to highlight for the season. Plenty of people choose earth tones for fall, but you can pick other colors you already know you love, or you can purchase a piece of décor and build your color palette around that.
  • Pick New Pieces: Whether you want all new art and décor or you’d simply like to add a few blankets and knickknacks, shop around and find some new fall décor. Don’t forget about your local thrift store – they might have some pre-loved pieces you can get for a great price!
Last but certainly not least, have fun! Changing your space for the seasons can be a wonderful way to de-stress and get excited for the weeks ahead. Light a candle, put on some music, and enjoy transitioning your space for fall!
